Bengaluru to Crack Down on Illegal Constructions with AI-Powered Monitoring

Bengaluru is set to take strict action against illegal constructions, with Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar announcing the use of artificial intelligence (AI) to detect unauthorized building expansions.
Key Announcements:
AI technology will help identify properties where owners have illegally added extra floors without approval.
The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has discovered that around 7 lakh properties have been avoiding property taxes. However, 1 lakh properties have already been added to the tax database.
A new law will empower BBMP to seize unauthorized properties, while privately owned roads in some areas will be converted into public roads.
Strict action will be taken against BBMP officials found involved in illegal activities related to property approvals and taxation.
Starting April 2025, property documents will be digitized, and a new registration service will be introduced to streamline property transactions.
Public awareness campaigns will be launched in collaboration with MLAs to educate citizens about legal compliance.
BBMP is also working on recovering ₹390 crore in unpaid property taxes from 1.73 lakh chronic defaulters.
With these measures, the Bengaluru government aims to curb illegal expansions, improve tax compliance, and bring transparency to the city's real estate sector.
